The International Cricket Council (ICC) has revealed the mascots for the 2023 Cricket World Cup, which will be held in India from October 5 to 23. They hail from the fictional cricketing utopia called “Crictoverse” and represent the unique features of both genders.
The male mascot is blue in color, which indicates his sub-zero coolness as well as his fiery batting ability. He has the ability to electrify audiences with his various shots using his electromagnetic bat. He is inspired by cricketers like Virat Kohli and Jos Buttler.
The female mascot has turbo-powered arms that fire balls at a lightning-fast pace. She also has a utility belt that contains various balls. This indicates the different variations the bowler has in her arsenal. She is inspired by cricketers like Jasprit Bumrah and Elyse Perry.
The ICC Head of Events, Chris Tetley, said that the mascots “signify cricket’s universal appeal beyond cultures and boundaries”. He added that the mascots “stand as beacons of unity and passion” and “epitomize the vital role of gender equality in our dynamic world”.
The mascots were developed with input from fans, who were able to vote on their design. The names of the mascots will also be decided by fans through a voting process.
During the lead-up to and during the tournament, the mascots will engage with fans in person, through broadcasts, and on digital platforms. Fans will also be able to purchase various Crictoverse products, including mascot-themed merchandise such as sunglasses.
The 2023 Cricket World Cup is the first major international cricket tournament to feature gender-equal mascots. The ICC hopes that the mascots will help to promote the sport to a wider audience and inspire young people of all genders to play cricket.
