Virat Kohli eyeing a massive Sachin Tendulkar, Ricky Ponting record in the 1st ODI against Australia

India will square off against Australia in the first off three ODIs at the Wankhede Stadium on March 17. Ahead of the first game, eyes would be on Virat Kohli, who just scored his 75th international hundred.

2023 is dominated by the fifty-over format, as India will host the all-important World Cup in October. Kohli, who scored three hundreds in four ODIs recently, would look to make the year extra special by adding another World Cup to his tally. Also, the 34-year-old would look to surpass Sachin Tendulkar’s tally of 49 ODI hundreds, as the former India skipper is just three short of equalling master blaster’s figures.

Further, Kohli would also look to ripple a few records in the forthcoming series, including the ones held by Sachin Tendulkar. Firstly, Kohli is just 49 runs away from surpassing Ricky Ponting in the list of most runs scored in ODIs at home.

At the moment, Virat is 3rd on the list with 5358 runs in 107 matches and needs 49 runs to outclass Ponting’s record of 5406 runs in 153 games to become the 2nd leading run-scorer in ODIs at home. Tendulkar is leading the list with 6976 runs in 164 games.

Also, Virat is 191 runs away from completing 13,000 ODI runs and become the 5th batter after Tendulkar (18,426), Kumar Sangakkara (14,234), Ponting (13,704), and Sanath Jayasuriya (13,430) to reach to this milestone. By achieving the feat, Kohli will also break Sachin’s record to become the fastest player to 13000 ODI runs. Tendulkar achieved the feat in 321 innings, while Kohli has played just 262 innings.
