Former India selector Saba Karim feels that India should look beyond unfit Jasprit Bumrah, who has been out of action for a long time.
Bumrah suffered a back injury which ruled him out of the Asia Cup and the ICC T20 World Cup. He also missed the bilateral series in New Zealand and Bangladesh. The speedster is also not a part of the ongoing matches against Sri Lanka.
He is also set to miss the home white-ball games against the Blackcaps. Karim said that Bumrah’s return would benefit the Men in Blue, but the management can’t only depend on the senior bowler across formats. Mohammed Siraj and Umran Malik have delivered for the team.
“India have to think beyond Jasprit Bumrah, and depending on him could prove dangerous against the big teams. We need to prepare the bowling unit as if Bumrah is not available in any format of the game. It would benefit the team,” he said.
Bumrah will miss the two Test matches against Australia as well.
The BCCI’s latest update on Jasprit Bumrah:
“Team India pacer Jasprit Bumrah has been ruled out of the ODI series against Sri Lanka. He will need some more time to build bowling resilience. This decision has been taken as a precautionary measure.”
