Tim Southee equals MS Dhoni’s sixes tally, eyeing Viv Richards’ record

New Zealand star bowler and skipper Tim Southee scripted history on Saturday, February 25, as the 34-year-old levelled with former India skipper and six-hitting machine MS Dhoni for most Test sixes.

Before the start of the 2nd Test against England, Southee had 76 sixes to his tally in 91 games, two short of Dhoni’s 78 sixes. Meanwhile, in the ongoing match, Southee came to bat a little earlier than expected but struck two sixes to remain unbeaten on 23(18) after stumps on day 2.

After matching Dhoni’s feat, Southee moved to fourteenth on the list of most Test sixes in a career and is the only proper bowler with so many sixes in Test history. The Kiwi skipper is also eyeing the feat of West Indian legend Viv Richards, who has 84 sixes in 121 games and needs to hit ten more sixes to become the player with the most sixes in Test for New Zealand.

The world is well versed with Southee’s bowling prowess, as he recently became the first Kiwi pacer to take 700 wickets, but his batting stats are decent as well. The right-arm quick has played 92 games, and has 1898 runs, with five fifties to his name.
