Asia Cup 2023 will commence on August 30, with Pakistan taking on Nepal at the Multan Cricket Stadium in Multan. The fans await the Indo-Pak tie on September 2 at the Pallekel International Cricket Stadium in Kandy.
It will be the first time these two heavyweights would collide after India’s win over Pakistan in the 2022 T20 World Cup. Ahead of the blockbuster event, India opener Shikhar Dhawan, who is not in the selectors’ plans for the upcoming tournament and also the World Cup, joined broadcaster Star Sports as an expert for the continental cup.

Star Sports recently released a 56-second-long promo where Dhawan talked about Indo-Pak rivalry and his experience of being a part of such games.
In the clip, Dhawan reiterated the famous saying that, ‘Whether you win the World Cup or not, do not lose to Pakistan.’ However, hours after the video got uploaded, the broadcasters removed it from all social media platforms.
“Whether or not you win the World Cup, don’t lose to Pakistan’ (laughs). Winning the World Cup is a top priority for us, and by god’s grace, we hope to achieve it. Playing against Pakistan brings a mix of excitement and pressure, but it’s always satisfying to come out on top. In my experience, we have mostly emerged victorious in matches against Pakistan. Despite the high intensity on the field, there’s also room for a light-hearted conversation with the opposing team,” said Dhawan.
The reason for taking down the promo is unknown, but the reports suggest that the fans were unhappy with the statement and that Dhawan talked about World Cup in an Asia Cup promo.
