Shreyas Iyer has returned to the Indian Test side as the selection committee led by Ajit Agarkar has picked a strong team for the two-match Test series against South Africa.
Ajinkya Rahane has been dropped from the side, while Cheteshwar Pujara was not considered.
Post the white-ball matches, which includes three T20Is and as many ODIs, the Rohit Sharma-led team will take on the Proteas at Centurion and Johannesburg on December 26 and January 3.
Although the selectors have made a couple of changes to the limited-overs team, they have gone in with the big names for the Tests as India aim to win their first ever Test series in the Rainbow Nation.
