The PSL will end today with defending champions Lahore Qalandars taking on Multan Sultans in a repeat of the 2022 final. The league saw several record-breaking moments. From tomorrow, the focus will shift to IPL, which begins on March 31.
With ever-growing domestic leagues, records are getting shattered frequently. However, one T20 record that stands still for over a decade is Chris Gayle’s unbeaten 175, which the Caribbean scored against Pune Warriors India in 2013.
Gayle’s 175(66) is the highest-individual score ever registered in T20 cricket. Aaron Finch came close to Gayle’s record when the former Australia skipper scored 172(76) against Zimbabwe in 2018.
In the latest development, Gayle, who is in India to receive his hall of fame at the RCB event on March 26, spoke to Jio Cinema, where he named the player who has the potential to break his record.
To surprise many, Gayle did not name his former teammate Virat Kohli or India skipper Rohit Sharma but touted KL Rahul to break his record.
“I think KL Rahul can break my record. He himself does not believe in his abilities, but I have seen him bat, and if he decides to bat like me sometimes, he can definitely get past my record of 175 runs.”
“Rahul is a very dangerous batter in the death overs, and after getting a good start, he can go on to shatter my record.”
