England had a frustrating day 3 of the Lord’s Test, as they lost six wickets in the first session for just 48 runs and tumbled for 325 runs. Further, Australia ended the day with 130/2 having a lead of 221 runs.
What added to England’s frustration were the missed chances. Notably, there was an instance in the match when Marnus Labuschagne would have returned to the pavilion earlier had Ben Stokes taken a review.
Stuart Broad was bowling well for England yesterday and almost got Labuschagne out thrice but eventually became a laughing stock on the internet.
On the first instance, the ball went past Labuschagne’s bat resulting in a loud appeal by Jonny Bairstow and Stuart Broad. Also, an excited Broad was quick to do his celebration and almost ran towards the slip cordon before he turned and realised that umpire was unmoved by the appeal.
The replay showed that Labuschagne’s bat had hit the ground. On the second instance, Broad trapped Marnus in front of the wickets and started his celebration before he turned to see the umpire’s finger unmoved. Meanwhile, Ben Stokes also refused a review, and the replay showed that the ball missed the wickets.
A similar instance occurred the third time, and Stokes again refused for a DRS. While Broad was walking back, he saw coach Brendon McCullum with his finger raised, as the big screen showed the ball hitting the wickets.
Disappointed with Ben Stokes, Broad yelled at the skipper and remarked, ‘I told you it was out. I told you.’ Here is the video.
After stumps on day 3, Stuart Broad went for X-Ray scans after he got hit on the head by a bouncer from Cameron Green.
