“We respect his decision and wish him all the very best.” – GT Team Director on Hardik Pandya’s move to MI

Gujrat Titans Team Director Vikram Solanki explained the reasoning behind the decision to let go of the star all-rounder and skipper Hardik Pandya. It was one of the biggest trades in IPL history, which saw Hardik Pandya return to the Mumbai Indians after leading the Gujarat Titans franchise to their first IPL title in their inaugural year and then to the final last year.

With an all-cash trade-in for Pandya on the IPL Retention deadline day, the Mumbai Indians pulled off one of the biggest deals in IPL history, and GT will enter the 2024 IPL mini-auctions with a sizable purse.

In a formal statement, Solanki praised Pandya for giving GT “two fantastic seasons.” The former England player said in a statement issued by the Gujarat Titans, “As the first captain of Gujarat Titans, Hardik Pandya has helped the franchise deliver two fantastic seasons that resulted in winning one TATA IPL championship and one appearance in the final.”

Additionally, Solanki disclosed that Pandya wished to rejoin the Mumbai Indians. He said, “We respect his decision and wish him all the very best in his future endeavours. He has now expressed a desire to return to his original team, the Mumbai Indians.”

Shubman Gill has been formally named as the new captain of the Gujarat Titans. The 2022 champions will try to build on their successful run in the IPL and carry over their success into the next season.
