Renowned cricket analyst Aakash Chopra has highlighted Australia as a formidable contender in the upcoming World Cup 2023 knockouts. He emphasized their potential to be a dominant force in the crucial stage of the tournament.
Chopra, a former Indian batter, acknowledged that Australia’s current team may not be as robust as in previous years. However, he believes that the team could pose a significant threat if they make it to the knockouts.
Backing key players such as Steve Smith, David Warner, and Marnus Labuschagne, Chopra expressed his confidence in their ability to propel Australia into the coveted final four. He specifically mentioned Mitchell Marsh and Glenn Maxwell as additional contributors who could play pivotal roles in the team’s success [6:40].
Despite recent setbacks, including a disappointing T20 World Cup and consecutive ODI series losses to South Africa and India, Chopra remains optimistic. While conceding they may not be the strongest, he asserts that if they find their rhythm, Australia could emerge as a team to watch in the knockout stages.
“One of the favourites to make it to the final four is Australia. Regardless of the circumstances, I believe the Australian team of Steve Smith, David Warner, Marnus Labuschagne, Mitchell Marsh, and Glenn Maxwell will advance the team to the last four. This yellow-clad team will be quite dangerous in the knockout rounds if they make it to the final four.” Chopra declared on his YouTube channel.
Australia is set to kick off its World Cup campaign with a match against India in Chennai on October 8. As the most successful team in ODI World Cup history, having lifted the trophy five times, the Aussies will aim to add another chapter to their storied cricket legacy in the upcoming tournament.
