Here’s why Nicholas Pooran’s 137 in MLC final won’t be added to his T20 records

Nicholas Pooran took the world by storm after his unbeaten 137 (55) helped MI New York beat Seattle Orcas by seven wickets in the final and lift the MLC trophy in its inaugural edition.

Chasing 184 runs from 20 overs, Pooran came to bat when MI New York were 0/1 and smashed 137 runs which featured 13 sixes and ten fours. The fans and experts hailed Pooran’s innings and termed it one of the greatest T20 knocks.

The Caribbean won the player of the match award for his performance and ended the tournament as the leading run-scorer with 388 runs in eight games. However, these runs and his knock in the finals will not be added to his official T20 records.

Pooran’s figures or any other player’s runs will not be added to their records because MLC does not have an official T20 status. Notably, America is an associate nation, and ICC has not sanctioned the official T20 status to MLC, unlike Abu Dhabi T10 League, US Masters T10 League, Global T20 Canada, and ILT20.

Nonetheless, the ICC has sanctioned the league, which means that it was Mumbai Indians’ ninth franchise league win.
