Repent is one of the many open air bars on Soi 6 in Pattaya. I hesitate to call the place a short time bar though. Until recently every bar on the street could be described that way. But nowadays things have changed. Sure the majority of women on Soi 6 in general and Repent in particular offer short time sessions. But there are now enough caveats to fill an essay sized review. So let’s get into it.
Repent is owned by the same group of people behind the previously reviewed Foxy Bar on the same street. They also own a number of other bars that operate more or less operate in the same fashion. For the most part these bars all tend to look quite alike too. I can barely tell one from the other.
This particular bar is located about halfway down the soi. It is on the left hand side if coming from Beach Road. The only real thing that makes it stand out is the sign above the bar that reads “Repent” in English. Though even that could be tough to spot in the midst of all the half-dressed women on display.
Soi 6 is not what it used to be
The biggest problem facing this bar is that is so much like many others along Soi 6. And that is not only including the bars that belong to the same business group. But also all of the other “modern” open front Soi 6 bars that blend into one another like so many trees in a forest.
There was a time when each bar on “the six” had its own personality. Sure you could expect more or less the same kind of straight ahead short time service at (or even in) any bar on the soi. But there was a unique flavor to each place too.
My Friend You had the couch behind the beads where expert oral was provided. Click was a little raunchier with the service behind a curtain yet in view of the bar. Full Moon had its own secret room for fun right on the ground floor. Red Point had a bevy of beautiful women including quite a few offering anal. Saigon Girl had sexy girls in special outfits willing to get wild behind the wall. Lucky Love was a fun place staffing stunners that would do it all upstairs. I could go on and on.
Sure you could simply write this off as ramblings of an old timer about the good old days. Some say the new modern model is what guys want today. Modern men are looking to get drunk and party with gals they’ve seen promoted all over their Facebook and Instagram feeds. I’m told they love to compete over who can buy the most lady drinks or ring the bell the highest number of times. They might leave sexless but they have a great time. Or so they say. I don’t know how true any of that is. But whether or not it is accurate it does make for a marked change. And from my perspective not really a good one.
Staff, service, and summary
There are a good number of women working at Repent. The lineup is somewhat steady though with any place of this nature you can have change from one day to the next. While beauty is in the eye of the beholder I think it’s fair to say that the women working at Repent are generally average looking for the area.
The gals wear an assortment of hot pants and halter tops and cosplay style costumes. So one day they might be kitted up like the legendary lingam lappers of Lolita’s Bangkok and the next they could be in bikini style gear like you might find in a go go bar. The usual mix of tattoos, colored hair and stretch marks are on display in the light of day. Though Soi 6 bars do tend to open later than they did in the past.
What about services of the sensual variety? There used to be a joke about guys who were so hopeless that “they couldn’t get laid in a whorehouse”. Well in some ways comedy is a reflection of reality. At Repent there are women who will refuse customers outright for no particular or obvious reason. This might sound like a sick joke. But you know what they say about laughing to keep from crying.
Now obviously I don’t think that women (or anyone else) should be forced to have sex or even mingle with anyone they don’t want to be around. Slavery is dead and buried and rightfully so! Individuals ought to have freedom of choice. But at the same time short time bars were historically known for offering, well, short time. You have to wonder why a guy would visit a pay-for-play place where he faces the same risk of rejection he would find when dating or trying to pick up women at a nightclub.
This is not to say that none of the ladies at Repent will go upstairs with any of the customers. Because that is not the case. But the way things work here are a far cry from how they work in some of the point and shoot original style bars that still exist just across the street. If a guy does find a lady willing to go upstairs with him he might then have to enter into negotiations. While there used to be a more or less set market rate on the street women at places like Repent now ask for whatever they want. And some even ask for it all up front.
The 2000 Baht ($58 USD) asked for short time by some ladies here might not sound like much. But it is double the 1000 Baht that has been more or less the norm up and down the strip for years. It is even well above the 1300 Baht often requested by women working in bars belonging to the same ownership group. Though considering that these bars charge a variable barfine depending on the hour of the day I guess it is not really surprising.
It is with all that in mind that I give Repent a mere one-and-a-half stars. Sadly Soi 6 seems to be a long way from its glory days. And I personally don’t think the changes of recent years that started well before the pandemic were for the better. I understand that some people may really like this place and others like it. I am not one of those people.
